OFFICIAL MINITUES OF THE MEETING BELOW

British Kashmiris meeting on Sunday 27th September 2009 Khidmat Centre Birmingham.

Present Afzal Tahir, Tahir Bostan, Mehmood Kashmiri, Safdar Mir, Najeeb Afsar, Jamil Lone, Talat Butt and Shams rehman

Apologies; Dr Misfar, Ghulam Hussain, Nazir Nazish

Shams informed the meeting that serious objections are raised by Dr Misfer on the press release issued by Prof. Liaqat to the Urdu Media claiming the previous meeting called by Tahir Bostan and Mehmood Kashmiri from Kashmir National Independence Alliance (KNIA). Shams also said that he agrees with Dr Misfar that the previous meeting held on 13th September was not of KNIA and the formation of Campaign Against Annexation of Gilgit Baltistan (CAAGB) was agreed as the wider body to organise resistance against the latest steps taken by Pakistan towards annexation of G&B that are damaging for the Kashmir question and would enhance the process of making the division of Kashmir permanent.

On these basis Shams concluded and the meeting agreed that the initiative taken in previous meeting to form a broader campaign has not taken off and today's meeting is virtually that of KNIA and not of the CAAGB. After this the representatives of KNIA informed the meeting that they have decided in their morning meeting to start a picketing campaign outside of Pakistani High Commission in London from 11th of October followed by pickets in Pakistani consulates across UK.

The meeting agreed to carry the resolutions discussed in the previous meeting drafted by Ghulam Hussain and improvised by Nazir Nazish, Shams Rehman and Afzal Tahir. However, there were strong objections with threat of walking out by Najib Afsar on the term British-Kashmiri. He argued that we are Kashmiri political parties based in Britain and by calling our selves British-Kashmiri political parties we are reducing to one region and excluding Kashmiris in other parts of the world. Shams disagreed and others agreed with Najib.

Zuber Ansari and Mohammed Nazim Bhatti later joined the meeting and expressed their support for the picketing campaign.
Meeting was ended with passing mention of making preparations of banners, leaflets and placards without assigning responsibilities as to who will do what.

It was only and first on Mr.Afzal Thair who objected the proposed resolution on 13 Sep.2009 please read it below.

Thank you for the message and the draft resolutions.

A: We noted serious contraductions between I, II and III
B: I don't understand who gave Pakistan the position of "Trust" and how we can make out assumption?
C: The subject draft do not reflect the discussions of the meeting held on 13Sep09.
D: The International Law under UNCIP resolutions is very clear and I think every one of the draft contributors must be well aware of the contents. It deal with the both south (AJK) and North Kashmir (GB) under Pakistan's occupation. The draft resolutions are clearly contraducting the International Law, yet referring to the International Law without specifying and identifying respective law.

In the view of the above, I do not support the draft resolutions and expect a short and precise resolution on the subject, that would make the message clear of our support on both aspects: the on-going struggle in IoK or PoK (AK+GB) and the steps needed under International Law, leading to the right to self-determination of the People, Nations and the Nationalities of the State of Jammu Kashmir.

Subject: Gilgit Baltistan and our contradictions?

The Kashmiri community in Britain always been very vocal and have sense of
attachment to the socio-political, socio-cultural happenings of the Indian
subcontinent, specially the politics of the divided State of Jammu Kashmir. The announcement by the
Government of Pakistan of an "empowerment" package for Gilgit Baltistan
attracted Kashmiri attention in Britain too.

The surprising aspect was that two members of NAP came out in opposition to the draft resolutions. I wonder how a party who claim and subscribes to an Independent Kashmir, but at the same time one is in opposition to the UN resolutions and other in favour of Simla Agreement. Please read through the following link:-

If we take Sajjad Raja or Nadeem Aslam's position, then there is no Kashmir case at all, let along an independent Kashmir. I hope NAP would clarify their position on behalf of the party.
